Last year I was contacted by chief editor Mark Koense of Dutch RTL GP Magazine if I could help because they wanted to do an article about Johnny Cecotto. The article is published in the latest edition of RTL GP Magazine 5 of 2009. A 6 page Johnny Cecotto interview with lots of pictures. RTL GP Magazine has done a great job with this article although they didn't mention anything about me or my website as I requested.
Johnny Cecotto and Johnny Cecotto jr. will be testing the BMW B6 GT3 car of Alpina BMW for the first time on February 25th and 26th at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy. It's the first time father and son Cecotto will be driving together so it will be a unique moment. The Alpina BMW B6 GT3 car has a 4.4 litre V8 engine with 500 horsepower.
Johnny Cecotto has been asked by Alpina BMW to maybe drive in their BMW B6 GT3 in 2009 in the FIA Euro GT3 series and the German GT Masters. Despite there are several messages that this is the case I can inform you that this still is NOT CONFIRMED!!! I hope to have more information within a short period of time when Johnny tells me more about this.
Johnny Cecotto has been part of the BMW M Night at castle of Heidelberg in Germany on July 20th. He was there on request of BMW because of the BMW M Power Tour 2008. He was there with his BMW M3 GTR car in which he became champion for the ADAC GT Cup in 1993.
A while ago I was asked by Ferry Brouwer of the Yamaha Classic Racing Team (YCRT) to see if Johnny Cecotto was interested to take part in the Biker's Classics at the circuit of Spa Francorchamps in Belgium from July 4th-6th. Despite the fact that Cecotto for some time is shown on the starting list I can announce that Johnny will NOT be there. Reason for this is lack of time and financial disagreement. I will visit this event anyway while the original machines of Cecotto are there and will bring a report of this later on this site.
Johnny Cecotto is in Venezuela for a while and was at the easy kart races on the San Carlos circuit as guest of the Veneco oil company which sponsor Johnny Cecotto jr. Also Johnny was honoured today in Caracas and was put into the Hall of Fame of Venezuelan sports!!
The Italian helmet company X-lite will release a series of helmets from motorcycle champions. It's great to see they will also release a Johnny Cecotto replica helmet. The helmet is one of the type X-801RR and will probably be available beginning of 2008. Other replica helmets will be released of Giacomo Agostini, Franco Uncini, Marco Lucchinelli and Mike Hailwood. For everyone who's interested in Johnny Cecotto this will be a gadget to look forward to. The helmet will be available in sizes XS till XXL.
Johnny Cecotto was going to take the steering wheel in his hand again at the 6 hour race at the Nürburgring with the AtTrack team in the Subaru Impreza WRX TSI again. But due to problems with the car it was not possible to enter for the race on Saturday. Johnny will NOT race!!
Johnny Cecotto didn't start in the 24 hour race at the Nürburgring because of engine troubles that couldn't be repaired in time. In first practice Johnny managed to do the best time of the AtTrack drivers and was on 52th spot out of 225 competitors. After an accident in second practice the Subaru Impreza WRX TSI had to be repaired. After getting back into practice they became a big engine problem. Regrettably the engine failure (turbo) couldn't be fixed before the start of the race on Saturday. You can see a report of my visit on Friday in the "Reports" section in Touringcar racing, Nürburgring 2006 in which also is written about the performances of Johnny jr. in Formula 3 over there.
